(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh relocated to Saudi Arabia allegedly for medical purposes after he suffered injuries in an attack on the presidential palace in the capital, Sana'a, on June 3.
Referring to the recent developments in Yemen, Tehran's interim Friday Prayers leader Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati said that Saleh's escape shows the Islamic awakening has succeeded in Yemen.
“Saudi Arabia has turned into a hub for dictators. Now if there is a movement in Saudi Arabia, perhaps these dictators will head for America."
The Iranian cleric said the Yemeni government's use of violence against its own people is due to the popular resistance against the pressure from the Western-backed regime, which has been ruling the country for over three decades.
Ayatollah Jannati stressed that the Islamic Republic is a staunch supporter of movements encouraged by the wave of Islamic awakening in North Africa and the Middle East.
He recalled how the Islamic Republic of Iran has always supported the Palestinian resistance over past decades.
He highlighted the Iranian nation's concern for the Palestinian cause during the leadership of late Founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Seyyed Ruhollah Khomeini, and said Iranians will continue to support their Palestinian brothers.
On the contrary to Western assumptions, after the passing of Imam Khomeini the Islamic Republic did not undergo any change because the establishment is based on Islam and the Holy Qur'an, the cleric said.
Commenting on the Islamic awakening in Bahrain, Ayatollah Jannati expressed hope that the popular uprising in the tiny Persian Gulf nation will bear fruit in the near future.
